Mark Kavanaugh is the associate vice chancellor and chief of staff to the provost. In this position, he serves as strategic advisor to the provost and members of the provost’s cabinet, coordinates and leads strategic planning for the Office of the Provost, conducts issues research, develops communication, and serves as a proxy for the provost as appropriate.   

Before taking his current position in 2016, Kavanaugh served as committee director and policy analyst for the Higher Education Committee in the Texas Senate.

Kavanaugh earned a PhD in higher education from the University of Georgia and a JD and a BA from Louisiana State University.
