We will also reflect on what it means to travel into the unknown, to seek out unexplored headwaters, to undertake a life-changing journey upriver. Along the way, we will discuss the works of Joseph Conrad, Tayyib Saleh, Ibn Fadlan, Francis Ford Coppola, Ciro Guerra, Werner Herzog, Toni Morrison and Rudaki, among others.</p> <p><strong>ARAB 3330&nbsp;The Arabic Novel</strong><br> Focusing on the origins and development of the novel genre in the Arabic tradition, this course examines both the aesthetic qualities of the genre as an artistic form and the ways that it has depicted and intervened in the modern social, political, and cultural upheavals that have shaped the Arab world in the 20th century. Authors include Najib Mahfuz, Abd al Rahman Munif, Hanan al-Shaykh, and Ghassan Kanafani. Arabic is a tough language but she makes learning it easy and fun.” Another remarked that “Mona’s attitude, positivity, energy, and passion every day without exception exemplify the Best Should Teach motto.”</p> <p>The award ceremony was held on Thursday, September 12th&nbsp;from 6-7:30pm in the UMC ballroom. During the course, students considered how Islam has been represented, by Muslims and non-Muslims alike, over the centuries. This project is one of many different final projects students completed, all of which dealt with the course topic in some way.</p> <p>The episode the students produced covers the operations of the Franklin Book Program, an American book-publishing and translation initiative that operated in the Middle East from 1953 to 1979.
