The College of Arts and Sciences Priorities

Innovation Awards

Beginning in 2022, College of Arts and Sciences leadership solicited staff, faculty and students for innovative ideas. Proposals that were chosen to be funded were related to spawning new cross-disciplinary research projects, developing and retaining faculty, staff and students, strengthening the college to the community, and fresh thinking about how A&S might reduce its carbon footprint. As of Spring of 2024, over two granting cycles, $517,000 has been granted to 25 award recipients. 

CU In the City: Community Scholars Program

The Community Scholars Program is a paid public-service internship to enable undergraduate students to experience first-hand the dynamics of working within government and community-based nonprofit organizations. The internship experience is enriched through weekly seminars and briefings with leaders from the community. In its inaugural year in 2023, 16 students were chosen to participate in the program. “This experience has been unique. As a senior, I’ve gotten quite accustomed to classroom learning … having the opportunity to learn in a real-world setting has been really valuable to me.” - Delany Hartmann, 2023 participant

DEI Initiatives

The college is committed to increasing cross-cultural awareness and competency. DEI-directed funding supports students, faculty and staff in their efforts to offer a wide variety of programs and initiatives that explore both the shared and unique experiences, histories, and heritages of our diverse community. The BIPOC Faculty and Staff Mentoring Program at the College of Arts and Sciences is a highlight of the A&S DEI initiative and is open to all faculty and staff in the college who are interested in fostering a diverse community that values equity and inclusion. The program seeks to empower and support diversity and inclusion for A&S faculty and staff to succeed socially, personally and professionally. 

Hellems Reimagined

For 100 years, the Hellems Arts & Sciences building has stood at the physical and intellectual center of the ֲý and is currently undergoing a complete physical renovation. In conjunction with this renovation, the college is creating a new and better home base for CU students that fosters collaboration, belonging and student success through two new A&S funds.

Creating Belonging Fund
Supports programs that envelop and promote the student wellness, programs and resources.

Fostering Success Fund
Supports co-curricular interests that help students innovate, discover career and research opportunities and secure stipends.​

These life-changing opportunities for scholars in the College of Arts and Sciences support their success in many ways, financial and beyond.
