A study by three CU-Boulder professors, including , assistant professor of civil, environmental and architectural engineering, has shown that Twitter can be a valuable tool forassessing damage to infrastructure after a natural disaster.

“People were tweeting amazing pictures and videos of damage to bridges and other infrastructure systems,” Dashti said of the 2013 Colorado floods. “After the fact, we compared those tweets to the damage reported by engineering reconnaissance teams and they were well correlated.”
