In October 乐播传媒聽President Bruce D. Benson聽(Geol鈥�64, HonDocSci鈥�04) awarded CU鈥檚 inaugural Advocate of the Year honors to聽Alvin Rivera聽(EdD鈥�76). Alvin is one of about 2,300 volunteers in the CU Advocates program, which celebrated its second anniversary at the reception and ceremony in Denver. State Rep. Joe Salazar (D-Thornton) additionally presented Alvin, who lives in Pueblo, with a proclamation from the Colorado House of Representatives in honor of his advocacy work on behalf of CU.

Federal judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado聽Christie Martinez Arguello聽(Edu鈥�77) was inducted into the Colorado Women鈥檚 Hall of Fame in March. She also leads the Arguello Dream Team, which mentors and inspires young people to pursue a college and graduate degree. Nominated by President George W. Bush as a federal judge, she lives in the Denver area.

After living in Westport, Conn., for years,聽Hillary Kramer Fritz聽(Engl鈥�78) and her husband聽Dain Fritz聽(Comm鈥�77) decided it was time for a new adventure. In December they packed up their lives and moved to Snowmass Village in the Roaring Fork Valley to enjoy the ski season. Their daughter Jacquelyn Fritz is a CU-Boulder student and their sonMatt Fritz聽(Engl鈥�09) lives in Boulder. Hillary is a former Alumni Association board member who helped revive Back to Boulder Homecoming Weekend, which will take place Oct. 23-26 this fall.

Ohio Super Lawyer Magazine named聽R. Mark Jones聽(PolSci鈥�79) a 鈥�2014 Ohio Super Lawyer.鈥� Mark is a partner at the Cleveland office of Roetzel & Andress and lives in University Heights, Ohio.

January was quite a successful month for聽Henry Kramer聽(Econ鈥�79), one could say. First, he won the Cyclocross World Championships in Gossau, Switzerland. And then, just five days later, he got back on the horse, errr 鈥� bike, in Boulder to win a national title. When he鈥檚 not traveling the country and the world, Kramer and his wife live in Menlo Park, Calif.

What does a retired tenured sociology professor from California State University-Los Angeles do well?聽Irene Blea(PhDSoc鈥�80) did not just write a series of classroom textbooks and novels that mostly focus on women鈥檚 issues. The New Mexico Humanities Council scholar also regularly reenacts the life of Dona Tules, the 鈥淟ady Gambler of Santa Fe鈥濃�� one of the state鈥檚 most controversial historical figures 鈥� on stages across New Mexico. Irene lives in Albuquerque.

For those principals in schools all over the country who wish their staff would show up just a little more motivated every morning,聽Kenneth Cooper聽(EdD鈥�82) has some advice. Together with his two co-authors, Nels Gustafson and Joseph G. Salah, he wrote the book聽Becoming a Great School: Harnessing the Powers of Quality Management and Collaborative Leadership. Cooper has 22 years of experience as the principal of the Paul F. Doyen Memorial School in Ipswich, Mass., where he lives. His secret? 鈥淗arness the intrinsic motivation of the staff,鈥� he says. Fidelity Charitable, an independent public charity with a donor-advised fund program, has a new president.聽Amy Noonan Danforth聽(IntlAf鈥�82) took the job in February after five years as senior vice president of marketing and programming. She oversees an organization that has helped donors support more than 170,000 nonprofit organizations with more than $16 billion in grants. Amy lives in Marblehead, Mass.

LeRoy Jones聽(Chem鈥�83) has been ranked among the world鈥檚 best urologists for surgical treatment of male incontinence and erectile dysfunction treatment. Last fall he launched the website edtreatmentsanantonio.com, which provides educational information on erectile dysfunction, low testosterone, male incontinence, premature ejaculation, male infertility and prostate problems. Jones sees patients at the Urology San Antonio Center for Men鈥檚 Health & Wellness.

Since 2007聽Alan F. Willenbrock聽(ChemEngr, Mktg鈥�83) has been working in the wealth management department at Morgan Stanley in Tucson, Ariz., where he lives with his wife Peggy. In January Alan was named senior portfolio manager in the company鈥檚 portfolio management program where he will better help investors monitor and manage their money. He also was inducted into the firm鈥檚 Pacesetter Club, which recognizes those financial advisers who excel within their first five years in the job.

On Feb. 12聽Geary Larrick聽(DMus鈥�84) performed a Black History Month program on solo marimba in Stevens Point, Wis., where he lives as a retired music professor of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He writes that his latest work was a review of Angela Smith鈥檚 book聽Steel Drums and Steelbands: A History, which appeared in the December 2013 issue of the聽Music Educators Journal.

Serving as chair of the Alumni Association board,聽Matt McElhinney聽(Fin鈥�86) has worn many hats during the past several years, including serving as the board鈥檚 treasurer. He lives in Denver with his family.

After serving as chair of the Alumni Association board, as well as holding numerous other board positions,聽Karin Rutstein聽(IntlBus鈥�87) finished her last term in May. Karin was an outstanding contributor to the Alumni Association, guiding marketing and overall strategy. She assumed the role of board chair from聽Jimmy Calano聽(Mktg鈥�78) who along with Karin and others, helped the staff launch Forever Buffs, which welcomes all students and alumni as members of the Alumni Association. A dues-free model, all Forever Buffs can take advantage of a lifetime of programming and services provided by the organization.

In January former Alumni Association board member聽Larry Drees聽(PolSci鈥�89, ExecMBA鈥�03, MMgmt鈥�09) and聽Martha Shernick聽(Fren鈥�79) were two alums who won the CU-Boulder Chancellor鈥檚 2013 Employee of the Year award. Larry of Longmont, Colo., is Buff OneCard program director and assistant director of Housing and Dining Services IT. He helped wire residence rooms with high-speed infrastructure, which was a key factor in CU鈥檚 ranking as the 28th most wired campus nationwide in 2000. Martha is residence hall program coordinator for Sewall Hall. She lives in Longmont, Colo.

With more than 20 years of experience, architecture veteran聽Tim Weyand聽(EnvDes鈥�89) is CEO of NK Architects, a Seattle-based firm focused on sustainable housing. He will help the firm increase its project work in the mid-Atlantic region by assisting in the conservation of the nation鈥檚 most historic neighborhoods and designing energy-efficient buildings. Tim lives in Bainbridge Island, Wash.

For 16 years聽Heidi Dewell聽(Jour鈥�91) has been working for Williams-Sonoma, the San Francisco-based specialty retailer of high quality products for the home. During that time, she helped launch the company鈥檚 West Elm and Pottery Barn Teen brands. As vice president in creative services, Heidi is responsible for catalog and brand packaging. She lives in San Francisco.

After four years, Arvada, Colo., resident聽Michelle McDowell聽(Psych鈥�91) finished her term in May on the Alumni Association board. Joining her in completing his three-year term was Katy, Texas, resident聽Tim Peterson聽(Econ鈥�92, MFin鈥�97). Each brought tremendous energy and unique perspectives to their board work, helping staff shape programming to better serve the larger Forever Buffs family.

Albuquerque, N.M., resident聽Erika E. Anderson聽(Psych鈥�92) was named president of the State Bar of New Mexico鈥檚 board of bar commissioners. She is a civil litigation attorney at French & Associates, chair of the American Bar Association Tort, Trial and Insurance Practice Section trial techniques committee, as well as former president of the New Mexico Women鈥檚 Bar Association and the state鈥檚 first Judicial District.

Even though聽Kristen Balsley Loos聽(IntlBus鈥�92) lives in Carson City, Nev., she visits Boulder where her family still lives. No surprise then that Kristen brought a branch of her Carson City-based, women-only fitness franchise Kaia FIT to Boulder last year and opened another in Lafayette, Colo.

厂颈苍肠别听Joel Parker聽(MAstro鈥�89, PhD鈥�92) joined the Southwest Research Institute in 1996, he has consistently climbed the career ladder. Today, Joel, who lives in Boulder, serves as director of Boulder operations in the Planetary Science Directorate of the institute鈥檚 space studies department.
