Laura Englert Eccles听(Mgmt鈥�04) found her mountain man in听Erik Eccles听(Fin鈥�00). The couple married in July 2010 in Lake Tahoe, Calif. Laura has a marketing job at Apple and is completing her MBA at Berkeley. Erik followed his entrepreneurial dreams and started his own technology company in 2009, which has since been acquired by Cisco. They enjoy spending their free time in Truckee, Calif.

Baby boy Caspian Julius was born on Sept. 30 to parents听Marlon Reis听(Engl鈥�04) and Jared Polis, a U.S. congressman. Marlon and baby C.J. will have videoconferences with Jared when he travels to Washington, according to a听Denver Post听article. The family lives in Boulder.

Chicago resident听Patrick Salvi听(Mgmt鈥�04) was promoted to partner at the personal injury law firm Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard. He also was named to Law Bulletin Publishing Company鈥檚 2011 鈥�40 under Forty鈥� attorney list, which recognizes Illinois鈥� top up-and-coming lawyers.

The National Academy of Music named听Mike Barnett听(PhDMus鈥�04) winner of the International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition for his piano concerto,听Lucifer Rising. Barnett is serving as composer-in-residence with the Fauxharmonic Digital Orchestra in Boston. He has performed at many major venues, and in addition to composing, Mike records regularly as a heavy metal drummer.

Director of opera at the University of Alabama at Birmingham听Kristine Hurst-Wajszczuk听(PhDMus鈥�04) was honored by the National Opera Association for her production of Benjamin Britten鈥檚听The Burning Fiery Furnace. It placed first nationally among other universities and colleges in the opera production competition. She lives in Fultondale, Ala.

At California Lutheran University, assistant professor of mathematics听Christopher Brown听(PhDMath鈥�04) received tenure in May. He lives in Camarillo, Calif.

KJZZ appointed听Adam Isaacs听(Jour鈥�04) to the board of directors for Friends of Public Radio Arizona. Adam is director of communications and sustainability at Sun Orchard. With more than 10 years of global marketing experience, he successfully led the comprehensive initiatives that have decreased annual operating costs for the company by tens of thousands of dollars. Fresh Nail Wax & Dry Bar is a salon in Denver鈥檚 Cherry Creek North owned by听Erin Jacobsen听(Mktg鈥�04) that opened in September. Fresh is different from other salons by offering specialized services and a hygienic environment with a focus on natural, American-made products and 鈥済reen鈥� practices. The salon also serves wine and offers a membership for $29 a month to receive one service and a glass of wine. Erin lives in Littleton, Colo.

Assistant professor at the University of Denver听Erica Chenoweth听(MPolSci鈥�04, PhD鈥�07) won the 2013 University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award for Ideas Improving World Order. Erica works in the Josef Korbel School of International Studies and won the award for ideas set forth in the book she co-authored,听Why Civil Resistance Works: The Strategic Logic of Non-Violent Conflict.听Through their research of uprisings involving more than 1,000 people from 1906 through 2006, the authors learned nonviolent campaigns succeeded twice as often as the violent ones and that governments where peaceful resistance took place were far more likely to become or remain stable democracies.

Former CU-Boulder student body tri-executive听Richard Murray听(PolSci, Phil鈥�04, Law鈥�07) and his wife听Elizabeth Janusz Murray听(Psych鈥�07) welcomed their son, Cayden Michael Murray, on Dec. 11. Richard made a lateral move to the law firm of Polsinelli Shugart in Denver, a large national firm with more than 600 lawyers, where he provides clients with general business counseling and assists in business, construction and commercial litigation matters. Richard also was elected as fellow of the Colorado Bar Foundation and chairman of the University Club of Denver鈥檚 committee on admissions.
