Election to NAI Fellow is the highest professional distinction accorded solely to academic inventors.

乐播传媒 from the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering presented their research as part of the competitive NC State University Future Leaders in Chemical Engineering symposium this past October. Three students from the department were recognized as awardees.

Professor Christine Hrenya was selected as a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) this year 鈥渇or key advancements in the fundamental understanding of granular matter and multiphase systems via a combination of theory, experiments and simulations,鈥� according to the official citation. Fellow selections are an exclusive honor, limited to no more than one half of one percent of APS membership.

Nicole Day, a third-year graduate student in the Shields Lab, is the 2021-2022 recipient of the Teets Family Endowed Doctoral Fellowship. The fellowship provides $15,000 a year for two years to support deserving students working in the nanotechnology field.

The 鈥淒BIA Buff Builders鈥� have earned first place in the 2021 National Design-Build Student Competition . Filipe Henrique is this year鈥檚 recipient of the Dwight E. and Jessie D. Ryland Graduate Fellowship from the College of Engineering and Applied Science. This fellowship provides $10,000 over two years to a deserving first-year PhD student working in alternative energy or improved energy utilization and efficiency.

Chern-Hooi Lim (PhDChemEngr鈥�15) is the founder and CEO of New Iridium, a spinoff company created by research conducted in part in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. He was recently selected for C&EN鈥檚 Talented 12, a program that honors young chemists and chemical engineers who are bringing innovation and entrepreneurship to bear on pressing global issues.

Damilola Akinneye, a PhD candidate in the Medlin Research Group, recently received the Andzik Scholarship, an award that goes to first-generation students or those who have faced unusual adversity, with a preference for those who graduated from a high school in Africa. Akinneye is originally from Nigeria.

Professor Ivan Smalyukh is one of the winners of the 2021 Langmuir Lectureship Award for his innovative work in the colloid and surface chemistry fields. Smalyukh will deliver a special presentation at the 2021 ACS Fall National Meeting, as will Professor Deborah Leckband of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, who also earned the honor.

Alexa Kuenstler, a postdoc in the Bowman and Hayward labs, and Lesli Mark (PhDChemEngr鈥�20), formerly of the Medlin group, were selected as Arnold O. Beckman Postdoctoral Fellows in Chemical Sciences for 2021.
