CU Experts Data Sources

Most data elements in CU Experts are updated via FRPA Online or CUBE.Ìý See below for instructions on how to update specific fields. All faculty are encouraged to provide at least the supplemental profile and research expertise information to build theirÌýÌýfaculty profile.

This field currently defaults from your official/legal name as it is stored in the Human Resources (HR) system and is maintained by your departmental payroll liaison. A 'Profile Name' option is now available through FRPA Online which allows faculty to enter the name they wish displayed on their CU Experts profile. To enter an alternate preferred profile name, go to 'Profile Name' in the navigation frame of FRPA Online. Faculty may change any or all three name fields (first, middle, last). These changes will only show in the CU Experts profile. Name changes for legal or payroll reasons must be submitted through your payroll liaison.

This field indicates your highest academic rank in order to best characterize your position at CU Boulder. Payroll records are used to determine this listing. Some supplemental titles are handled individually and maintained in FIS by Faculty Affairs (e.g., Nobel laureate, endowed professor, etc.), as they are not always part of the payroll database. Your departmental payroll liaison is responsible for corrections to HR job class data.ÌýÌýFor updates to endowed appointments, contact the OFA Service Desk atÌýofafacultydata@colorado.edu.

Positions information displays the unit and rank of each position currently held by a faculty member as entered into the HR system. Please contact your payroll liaison if corrections are needed.

This information comes from the FRPA database maintained by Faculty Affairs. To revise what is listed as your research interests, log in to FRPA Online through the Faculty Reporting Channel ofÌýÌýat any time and modify as needed by adding or removing items associated with the FRPA keywords code list, user-defined keywords or your research overview found in the Research & Expertise module ofÌýFRPA Online. For assistance, contact the OFA Service Desk atÌýofafacultydata@colorado.edu.

This information includes all of your publications currently claimed in our campus CUBE (CU Boulder Elements) reporting application. Login at to add more publications. ÌýPublication types include books, chapters, journal articles, scholarly editions, and published conference proceedings. Publications must be claimed in CUBE before they will appear on your CU Experts profile and may take 48 hours to appear. For CU Experts’ profiles, publication details from an automated source such as Web of Science or PubMed are chosen over a manually added record faculty may have added for the same publication. Faculty still have full choice over what information shows on their FRPA. Relying on an authoritative source like Web of Science means the bibliographic citation on CU Experts might differ from what shows on your FRPA. For additional help, please contact the OFA Service Desk at ofafacultydata@colorado.edu.ÌýÌýOnline help guides are also available.

Country data submitted through the International Activities module of FRPA Online are the source for data showing as International Activities in the CU Experts profiles. The World Map on the CU Experts home page visually represents counts of international activities by country and region for current faculty in CU Experts to illuminate where our faculty have global connections. Updates to this field can be made inÌýFRPA OnlineÌývia the Faculty Reporting Channel onÌýÌýat any time. For assistance, contact the OFA Service Desk atÌýofafacultydata@colorado.edu.

Information on faculty degrees is maintained in FIS by Faculty Affairs and is typically based on vita information submitted at the time of hire. The main process focuses on information about the core faculty. If your degree information is missing, please email year, degree type and institution where you got the degree to ofafacultydata@colorado.edu. Understanding foreign degree systems presents a particular challenge. Though we have made a good attempt, we are aware that corrections may be needed and appreciate the feedback so we may correct our data to best represent our faculty.

Awards information in CU Experts includes information on honors and awards received by our faculty, including the name of the honor, the year it was received, and the awarding organization. This information includes campus and national honors for the current faculty who have a CU Experts profile. To capture as many awards as possible, Faculty Affairs has supplemented campus data with information from Academic Analytics about external awards received by our faculty. This data project is an ongoing effort to display as much information as possible about awards and honors received by our faculty. Faculty Affairs is working to build a sustainable update process to add more historical information as well as new information about faculty achievements in a timely fashion.

Missing or incorrect award information on your CU Experts profile? Send an email toÌýofafacultydata@colorado.eduÌýand include the name of the award, the awarding organization, the recipient, and the year of the award. The curated data will be added to our FIS database and will be updated on CU Experts. This effort focuses solely on faculty awards.

Your ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ email address. This information is maintained through the ITÌýService Center.ÌýÌýPlease contact OITHelp@colorado.edu or callÌý303-735-4357 (5-HELP)Ìýfor assistance.

Need to add or replace a photo for your CU Experts profile? There are currently two options.
  1. Faculty may upload a digital photo file throughÌýFRPA OnlineÌý±¹¾±²¹Ìý. From the CU Resources tab, go to the Faculty Reporting Channel and choose FRPA Online. Once in FRPA Online, see the Profile Photo link in the navigation frame on the left side of the application.
  2. Strategic Relations provides headshots and portraits services for allÌýÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Boulder employees. There is no charge for this service.ÌýReserve your time slot on the Strategic Relations and Communications webpage.

The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ became a member of the newly launched global effort known as ORCID in 2014 and received grant funding to create ORCID iDs for our core faculty and researchers. Initially, CUÌýBoulder created ORCID iDs for all tenure-track faculty, instructors, clinical faculty, and research faculty. Other faculty (e.g. lecturers, adjunct faculty), students, and staff can register for an ORCID iD themselves for free on the ORCID website atÌý.

The power of the ORCID initiative is to enable researchers to link easily their names with their scholarly work to insure proper attribution for the full range of their scholarly contributions. ORCID iDs are unique faculty ids that can be linked to existing identifiers such as Researcher ID, PubMed Id, and Scopus Id as well as things such as publisher manuscript submission systems, funding agency grant application workflows, and vendors specializing in faculty data metrics.

The Boulder campus hopes to use ORCID iDs to their full potential to improve information stores about our faculty's scholarly accomplishments. ORCID is a dynamic non-profit operation dedicated to the individual scholar. As it continues to evolve, more linked data and functionality will become available.

Is your ORCID iD missing?ÌýIf you have an ORCID iD that is not showing here, please email it toÌýofafacultydata@colorado.edu.

If you have a claimed ORCID iD that Faculty Affairs has on record, your ORCID iD will show on your CU Experts profile page, hyperlinked to your ORCID profile. Deans and chairs can also see ORCID iDs for their units through FRPAport.

If you are a faculty member with an active appointment, we will be re-running the registration process to include faculty who were not included during the initial summer 2014 registration process.

For more information, visit the campus ORCID project website atÌýhttp://www.colorado.edu/fis/orcid.

Vitae are uploaded by the faculty using the FRPA application. Only vitas indicated by the faculty member as for public use are published on CU Experts profiles. Subsequent uploads replace previous files.

Faculty should carefully consider the personal information included on their submitted vitas now that this information will be viewed on the Web. Possible items to avoid include: home contact information, names of family members, date of birth, and other personal items not related to your professional work. Content of the vita is ultimately at the discretion of the individual faculty member. Logon to FRPA Online to upload a new version of your public vita. Though many file formats are allowed, uploading as a PDF file insures special characters and formatting will remain unchanged. For questions, please contactÌýofafacultydata@colorado.edu.

The organizational structure of the campus is represented in the listings found under the 'Organizations' tab. Academic departments are defined as those that are tenure-bearing and/or offer degrees. Affiliations within units are currently based on HR position data. Each department listing indicates administrative heads and those faculty with official positions in the unit. Faculty who have not indicated research interests or international connections will not show on the department affiliation list either. Only faculty with active appointments are included at this time. Emeritus faculty or external affiliates will be added with future development. Department pages also include linked data about research interests indicated by faculty, awards given by the unit, and information about equipment or services catalogued by the Office of Industry Collaboration.

Users can download their CU Experts search results if desired. Look for the download iconÌýDownload ResultsÌýat the top of the page for most search results. To further filter search results prior to download, select one of the faceted groupings (people, department, research topic or concept, etc.) in the box to the right of the page. A CSV download results in a spreadsheet listing the following items: name or topic, rank (for people), email address (for people), and the CU Experts profile link. For assistance, contact the OFA Service Desk atÌýofafacultydata@colorado.edu.
