In the mid-1980s, several Jewish leaders, including Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach and Zalman M. Schachter-Shalomi, convened in Florida for annual meetings named after the Hebrew term Ruach,Ìýwhich means "wind" or "spirit." Dennis Shuman recorded the lectures and homiletics presented at these meetings along with several other liturgical events.

Along with his work as a research scientist for the U. S. Department of Agriculture, lecturing as an adjunct Assistant Professor for the Agricultural & Biological Engineering Department at the University of Florida, and advising the University of Florida Center for Spirituality and Health, Dennis Shuman, PhD. founded the P'nai Or Gainesville Jewish Renewal Congregation.
