Chase Wesley Raymond is an Associate Professor in the DepartmentĀ of Linguistics, as well as aĀ core faculty member in the interdepartmental . HeĀ also holds a secondary appointment in the , at the . Prior to coming to CU-Boulder, heĀ was a Visiting Scientist at the in Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

Formally trained in both Hispanic Linguistics (PhD, UCLA, 2014) and Sociology (PhD, UCLA, 2016), Prof. Raymond is an interdisciplinary scholar of language and social life.Ā In his research and teaching, heĀ brings together theories and methods from Conversation Analysis, Interactional Linguistics, Pragmatics, and Sociolinguistics to investigate language use in both mundane and institutional contexts, exploring how interactants ā€˜make senseā€™ with one another on a moment-by-moment basis as they move through interaction. He isĀ particularly interested in situations of contact -- that is, when divergent languages, dialects, cultures, etc. come together in interaction -- with a primary focus on various aspects of the Latinx and Spanish-speaking experience in the United States.Ā His work has appeared in a disciplinarilyĀ diverse set ofĀ journals which range fromĀ LinguisticsĀ (e.g.,Ā Language, Language in Society, Journal of Sociolinguistics), to Communication Studies (e.g.,Ā Research on Language and Social Interaction, Discourse & Communication), toĀ Healthcare (e.g.,Ā Patient Education and Counseling).Ģż
