Leong introduces Miles Okazakiā€”guitarist and composer, Princeton Universityā€”at last monthā€™s ā€œRhythm in Music since 1900,ā€ Schulich School of Music, McGill UniversityDaphne Leongā€™s got rhythm: When it comes to 20th- and 21st-century music, Professor of Music Theory Daphne Leongā€”along with her colleagues in the world of rhythm in music performance and scholarshipā€”engages in intense research and endless experimentation which brought her to Montrealā€™s McGill University for a residency. Margaret Ber Associate Dean for Graduate Studies Margaret Berg co-authored an article with alumna and Westminster High School band teacher Megan Lewin (MA ā€™18) that includes core reflection applications for in-service music teachers. The articleā€”ā€œStress-reduction strategies for music teachersā€ā€”was published in the September 2023 Music Educators Journal. Berg also has a chapter titled ā€œFostering care through core reflectionā€ in the new Oxford Handbook of Care in Music Education, edited by K. Hendricks.Ģż


Associate Professor of Bass Susan Cahill Associate Professor of Bass Susan Cahill guest starred on ā€”her third time on the program.Ģż


Teaching Professor Peter Cooper Teaching Professor Peter Cooper conducted master classes in Germany (Berlin, Stuttgart and Leipzig)ā€”made possible, in part, by the Dr. C.W. Bixler Family Foundation Faculty Initiatives Fund.Ģż


Professor of Piano Andrew Cooperstock Professor of Piano Andrew Cooperstock was inducted into the prestigious Steinway & Sons Teacher Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Astoria, Queens, New York, followed by a tour of the historic Steinway factory. A Steinway pianist, Cooperstock has performed on six continents and recorded a critically acclaimed series of American music albumsā€”notably the complete solo piano works by Leonard Bernstein (Bridge, Deutsche Grammophon).Ģż


TakĆ”cs Quartet first violinist + CU Boulder Artist in Residence Edward Dusinberre : Dusinberreā€™s new bookā€” (University of Chicago Press)ā€”focuses on four composers, discussing their lives and what ā€œhomeā€ might mean to them ... and to Dusinberre himself, having lived in England and the United States. , a conversation between Dusinberre and London-based violinist and writer Joseph Edwards.Ģż


Associate Professor of Viola Erika Eckert Associate Professor of Viola Erika Eckert received a award.Ģż


Assistant Professor of Voice Andrew Garland Assistant Professor of Voice Andrew Garlandā€”along with College of Music colleagues Javier Abreu, tenor; Jeremy Reger, piano; Margret McDonald, producer; and Kevin Harbison, engineerā€”earned third place recognition for their album ā€œEl Rebeldeā€: Gabriela Frank | Dmitri Shostakovich in the, among the many contests of The American Prize. As well, Garland made his Boston Symphony Orchestra (Holiday Pops) debut singing Vaughan Williamsā€™ ā€œFantasia on Christmas Carolsā€ and heā€™ll be teaching several courses on the for which he is a launch artist.Ģż


Professor of Trumpet Ryan Gardner Professor of Trumpet Ryan Gardner was named president of the International Trumpet Guild.Ģż


Associate Director of Orchestras Renee Gilliland The College of Musicā€™s Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Associate Director of Orchestras Renee Gilliland, was selected as a national finalist in the as part of The American Prize (National Nonprofit Competitions in the Performing Arts).Ģż


Associate Professor of Music Education Leila Heil Associate Professor of Music Education Leila Heil was selected to participate in the CU systemā€™s Excellence in Leadership Program.Ģż


Retired Professor of Harpsichord Robert Hill Robert Hillā€™s laboratory for thought: Recently retired Professor of Harpsichord Robert Hill reflects on his career, the College of Musicā€™s universal musician mission and the academic community as ā€œa formalized laboratory for thought.ā€Ģż


Professor of Piano David Korevaar : Washburn Universityā€™s music and theatre departments hosted the 2023 Kansas Music Teachers Association State Conference featuring the Professor of Piano David Korevaar as the conference guest artist.

Professor of Composition Carter Pann The U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band has named Professor of Composition Carter Pann the winner of its ā€œMach 1ā€ contestā€”a composer commission competition that fosters collaboration with civilian composers. Pann will work with the band over the next year on a new composition for brass quintet.Ģż

Assistant Professor of Composition Annika Socolofsky Assistant Professor of Composition Annika Socolofskyā€”a composer and avant-folk vocalist who explores colorful corners of the human voiceā€”released her album ā€œDonā€™t say a wordā€Ģż(New Amsterdam Records),. Additionally, the release of her second solo albumā€ in collaboration with the ~Nois Saxophone Quartetā€”is a celebration of queer joy and defiance. Socolofskyā€™s original three-song cycle riffs on the familiar nursery rhyme ā€œsugar, spice, and everything nice, thatā€™s what little girls are made of,ā€ questioning gender roles and rejoicing in the beauty of queer self-expression and empowerment.Ģż

Associate professor of music composition + technology Michael Theodore Faculty Exhibition: 2023 celebrated the creative work of CU Boulder faculty whose scholarship and teaching are grounded in an art making practiceā€”including Michael Theodoreā€™sĢżproject exploring interrelated media. Theodore, at our College of Music, conducts ongoing experiments with AI.
