An individual may want to access a medical exam to preserve evidence following a sexual assault. The Sex Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program at theÌýÌýis available to conduct a SANE exam, ideally within five days of the sexual assault.

It is best to not bathe, shower, eat, drink, douche, or change clothes before a SANE. However, evidence can still be collected even if any or all of these things have been done. If some or all of this evidence is unavailable or does not exist, reportingÌýa sexual assault to law enforcement and/or OIEC is still encouraged. The lack of evidence does not preclude an investigation from taking place.

Please contact the Office of Victim AssistanceÌý(OVA) atÌý303-492-8855 to confidentially discuss any of your medical or reporting options.Ìý

Individuals can receive aÌýforensic/SANE without first talking to the university or a confidential resource by calling the police directly and telling the dispatcher that they want to report a sexual assault and would like to preserve evidence. The police can provide transportation to the hospital. An individual can also undergo a SANE without police involvement byÌýgoing directly toÌýÌýand requesting a SANE.
