With 2020 winding down, many are looking forward to the new year with hope. Hope for a return to campus, hope for a return to routine and hope for a reunion with those we love.

The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) recognizes 2020 has been particularly trying on our postdoc community. Many of you have made immeasurable sacrifices, professionally and personally, and some have experienced great loss. OPA understands that the holiday season may be difficult as many are not able to spend time with family, friends and loved ones. Please know you are not alone and there are campus resources listed below that are available to you if in need.

Many postdocs are familiar with Stanley Ly in CU Boulder’s Human Resources (HR) division. Stanley recently authored an article offering tips for motivation and positive mental well-being: “Finding Motivation During Extraordinary Change and Novel Adversities in the Workplace.” Additional resources from HR include:

  • Faculty & Staff Assistance Program: FSAP is dedicated to serving the emotional and psychological needs of the campus community. All FSAP staff are trained as generalist counselors and are equipped to deal with a wide range of personal and work related issues. You must be a CU Boulder employee to use FSAP services, and services are free to all CU Boulder postdocs.
  • Human Resources Self-Care Resources: FSAP counselors offer a number of strategies and suggestions for ensuring you are taking care of yourself.
  • : Call (833) 533-2428 to talk with professional counselors who can offer assistance finding local resources or provide immediate crisis counseling. It’s a free and confidential service and available 24/7. The service is available to all members covered under any of CU’s medical insurance plans.
  • : SilverCloud offers secure, immediate access to online CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) programs, tailored to your specific needs.

OPA wishes you all happiness and health as we enter 2021. Do not hesitate to reach out at opa@colorado.edu if OPA can be of assistance.
