Department of Spanish and Portuguese

I graduated in 2021 with an MA in Hispanic Linguistics in the department of Spanish and Portuguese. My research interests concern the intersectionality of ³¦²¹°ù¾±²ú±ðñ¾±»å²¹»åÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýlatinidad as presented in the Spanish-Caribbean diaspora. Primarily, my work converges sociolinguistic variation in the Caribbean, usage-based approaches to phonological change and variation, ethnology and raciolinguistics, and the relationship between linguistics and musicology. My research aims address questions of identity and language use in Heritage Language practices and Bilingual communities, both in the Caribbean and in the mainland US. Currently, my professional goals include continuing my research in a PhD program at the University of Texas, Austin, in order to provide further insight regarding the linguistic behaviors of speakers of Caribbean Spanish in contact situations, as well as the phonetic variation implemented in non-spoken/spontaneous domains of language use, such as the contemporary urbano latino music scene.Â
