Department of Linguistics

I am currently an MA student in the Department of Linguistics. My interest is in the concept of self that is seen in Japanese and English interactions. My work in discourse analysis examines conversational data in Japanese and English and investigates how socio-cultural background may influence language use in the two languages by comparison. I focus particularly on the use of reference and pronouns in interaction. I have conducted research on the use of first-person pronouns as well as "third-party" reference in the two languages.
