I work within the paradigms of sociocultural linguistics and limguistic anthropology, and examine facets of language and identity, language in globalization, and language politics. My current work investigates how contact vernaculars like Singlish, embraced and celebrated as hybrid in Singapore, provide clues to alternative theorizations of language that consider how metapragmatic narratives impact the structural integrity of language itself.
