Department of Communication

I received my PhD and was a graduate instructor in the communication department studying in the area of Community and Social Interaction. I am broadly interested in conceptualizations of culture and ethnic, national, and cultural identities, and the role of language in socially constructing these category boundaries. My past research has examined the negotiation of Basque-American identity and shifting cultural identities of first-generation immigrants as they acquire a new language. I earned my M.A. from the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Boulder, as well as a dual B.A. from James Madison University in Cultural Communication and Spanish with a minor in Creative Writing.
