Data Science

I am a data scientist/mathematician with a rare background combining business, communications and technical skills.

I have a PhD in applied and computational mathematics (computational neuroscience) and have taught courses in Python, R, Data Science, Calculus, and Numerical Analysis. I spent several years as a software engineer, manager and account manager dealing at the executive level in large Fortune 500 companies. I am currently faculty director of the master's in data science at Univ of Colorado. Previously, I was at American University where I was instrumental in starting their data science program. I developed and taught two of the four core courses in the MS in Data Science - Statistical Programming in R and Data Science. I also guest lectured in the Statistical Machine Learning class covering the module on Neural Networks and taught the Data Science Practicum.

I was the founding director for the MS in Data Science at CU for both the online Coursera and residential modes. As director, I developed and taught Data Science as a Field in both modes. Additionally, for Coursera, I helped to develop two of our preparation specializations - one in R and tidyverse, the other in math foundations for data science.

I am not JUST a nerd. My undergraduate degree was in general studies (classical languages and political science). I took a few years out and sang in operas, became a sommelier, and hiked the Camino de Santiago. I love to travel and meet new people. I also dabble in real estate and stock investing.
