This photo book serves to bring happiness to a culture in which dogs are such a large part of life, capturing the differing personalities of some of our canine friends from right here in the front range.

This set of images is dedicated to the appearance of the small white dog, Coconut. In the first image, Coconut pants over the grass while being backlit by the golden setting sunlight. In the second image, Coconut lazily pants while slowly closing his eyes in sleepiness.

Shown here, is the gorgeously black and golden-brown speckled Riley. Riley is standing on the sand while casting a shadow and intently staring out left in the first photo. In the second photo, Riley’s face takes up the whole frame, with his eyes in sharp focus while looking directly at the camera.

These pages are dedicated to additional photos of Colorado Canines. Photograph 1 pictures an unknown black and white dog in sharp focus, licking her face. Image 2 shows Fern looking right at the camera, with her tongue out the slightest bit. Photo 3 shows a tennis ball in midair, in shallow focus in the foreground, with Payton in sharper focus staring intently at the ball from the background.

Photo one shows Coconut with his eyes gazing downwards in sharp focus, illuminated to be golden-brown in the sunlight. Image 2 shows Millie’s face in poor focus, sniffing the camera lens from very close up. Photo 3 shows a side profile of Ozzie gazing upward majestically into the cascading sunlight.

Image one shows Cocoa’s face from a side profile, gazing off-camera and to the left. Photo 2 shows Barbara laying on the sunlit carpet, with his eyes illuminated and in close up sharp focus.

The last page of the book repeats the title Canines of Colorado, as well as the photographer’s name, Lauren Jackson. There is an image of a small white dog (Coconut), facing away from the camera, with his head and body outlined in golden backlight from the impending sunset.


Within the pages of this book, the faces of Colorado’s canines have been captured in an effort to showcase their personalities, as well as highlight the importance of dogs in Colorado culture. I think providing outlets for animal photography helps people see that each individual animal has its own personality, and thus works to encourage seeing the similarities between humans and members of other species rather than the differences. Although the primary purpose of my photobook is to make the viewer smile, I hope that it also encourages discourse on the current state of how we as a society treat other animals. Because Colorado culture is so closely tied to dogs, I produced this book as a way to encourage this thought process to hopefully begin to take hold among viewers.
