The IOD-1 GEMS satellite is the first in a planned fleet of Earth-orbiters that will one day record weather data at every point on the globe every 15 minutes. The project is a partnership between CU Boulder and Colorado-based Orbital Micro Systems (OMS).

CU Boulder spinoff Stateless, Inc. recently announced that the company received a $750,000 Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

The spacecraft has been nudged into a new, closer-in orbit around Mars. That circuit will allow MAVEN to split its time between continuing its scientific research and serving as a communications relay for NASA鈥檚 current and future Mars rovers.
