The RamanÌýMicrospectroscopyÌýLaboratory is a core research facility housed in theÌýDepartment of Geological Sciences for fast, non-destructive characterization andÌýchemical imaging of diverse materials spanning rocks and minerals (thin sections &Ìýpowders), biological samples, fluids, gasesÌýand much more.

Our instrument isÌýespecially optimized for fast hyperspectral imaging of complex samples andÌýmaterials, where a full Raman spectrum is collected at every pixel. This technique,Ìýcombined with advanced multivariate statistical techniques, facilitates theÌýdetection and identification of all Raman-active species present in the area ofÌýinterest. Our facility also provides users with access to a FTIR microscope and dataÌýprocessing facilities.
