SKO BUFFS

What Is CU Rugby?

Dating back to the club's inception inÌý1967, the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Men’s Rugby ClubÌýcompetes at the highest level. This tradition continues with the team’s participation in D1A-West, the highest level of collegiate rugby in the United States. The Buffaloes have seen great success with the team reaching the national quarterfinals successively in (2013 & 2014), being ranked 7thÌýin D1A at the end of the 2014 season, and 10th after the 2022 season. Along with perennialÌýtop 20 and 25 appearances. Adding to the team’s proud history are a National Final appearance in 1984, two Final Four appearances in 1984 & 2008, and the PAC 7’s title in 2011. The team won a plate in Vegas in 2015 and '16, and advanced to the plate final in the inaugural year of Red Bull University 7's, appeared at the Collegiate Rugby Championship in 2019, and more. This success is bolstered by an active and outspoken alumni presence that engage with the team as frequently as they can and encourage new players to uphold the CU Rugby tradition and mindset.Ìý

The '21-'22Ìýfall 15's seasonÌýboasted wonderful results for the team. Under continuedÌýleadership in coaching, having been established since 2018, the team climbed the rankings all season. Going 4-1 in the conferenceÌýand 6-1 overall, finding themselves at #10 of the top 20 teams in D1A. LeadÌýwith impressive defensive shutdowns, offensive showcases, and relentless effortÌýwe look forward to continuing this success.

Being part of a Division 1 University with many high-levelÌýsports, the team reaps the benefits through access to the schools top-tier athletic facilities. The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Men’s Rugby Team practices on beautiful natural and artificial surfaces, and works out in one of the nation's best recreation centers (which was just renovated to the tune of $62 million). Thanks to its close proximity to USA Rugby, and several of the nation's best men’s teams, the team is bolstered by one of the best coaching staffs in the nation. Moving forward, Colorado plans to build on its successful foundations and remain competing to be one of the best teams in the nation.
