The 7th annual Health and Wellness Summit is November, 2024. The first day of the H&W Summit will include in-person, campus-specific wellness events, such as CU Boulder’s Healthier U at CU Employee Benefits and Wellness Fair. The second day of the H&W Summit will be a hybrid event. We hope to offer participants opportunities to attend virtual presentations and panels and experience in-person discussions and activities related to all facets of health and wellness. Keynote presentations will be hybrid, and concurrent sessions throughout the day will be virtual. Watch rooms will be available in the UMC for participants to attend the virtual sessions in person. Submit a proposal for the Health and Wellness Summit.

Good news! Faculty and staff on monthly payroll can now purchase their parking permit online. You no longer need to submit applications and allocation forms.

In addition to selecting from the available lots, you also have the option to join a waiting list if your preferred lot is not available. If you need to park now, you should first choose an available permit/lot, then view the permit to request a lot change. You can switch lots to another available location or join a waiting list for a lot that is currently sold out. As permit cancellations are processed or as Parking Services identifies additional space availability, permits will be offered to the next person on the waiting list for that lot.

Requests for cancellation must be effective before the end of the month to avoid being billed for the next month. Payment is non-refundable.

The Digital Accessibility Office is accepting nominations for the Digital Accessibility Buff Award! This tri-annual award honors CU Boulder students, staff, and faculty who have demonstrated noteworthy accessibility practices and fostered an inclusive digital environment for individuals with disabilities. The decision committee looks for nominees whose work aligns with the DAO mission and who inspire others to create a more inclusive environment at CU Boulder by significantly increasing awareness of digital accessibility on campus. As a CU employee, you may qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), a program that rewards college graduates who work in the public sector. Savi can help you understand your choices, lower your monthly payments and enroll in a forgiveness program.

Savi provides two service tiers:

A free calculator to assess your student loan situation and get guidance on your options.
For a $60 annual fee, you can enroll in Savi's Essential Service. Savi will administer the program's ongoing paperwork requirements including annual re-enrollment, employer certifications and filing for PSLF credits with the U.S. Department of Education.

The Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence (CSPV) is making it easier for CU staff members and others to access its Warning Signs for Violence and Strategies for Upstander Reporting class through a SkillSoft course.

The virtual, text-based course takes about 35 to 40 minutes to complete. It covers topics such as how to recognize concerning behavior and how to create a culture that is supportive of upstander reporting. It also includes scenarios that help participants put their knowledge into practice.

Sarah Goodrum, research professor with CSPV, said knowing the warning signs for violence is an important first step. “Recognizing the concerning behaviors that can precede violent attacks can create opportunities for intervention and prevention, if they are also supported by a culture of upstander reporting,” she said.

Upstanders are people who take steps to report safety-related concerns, and these upstanders’ tips can help avert violence. Concerning behaviors to look for can include escalating anger, unmanaged depression or isolation, changes in appearance, aggression, talk of being bullied and suicidal ideation or self-harm.

Goodrum said one of the goals of the online course is to share knowledge so more people know what these warning signs look like, and how they should relay them to people who can help.

“Just like the warning signs for any other health or wellness issue, such as cancer, heart disease or suicide, we should all know what the warning signs for violence look like and what to do when we see them,” Goodrum said, adding, “We need to know the signs and then report them to people who can help.”

The online course points to available resources, which include Colorado’s Safe2Tell tip line - see the CSPV and Don’t Ignore It websites. After completing this course, participants should be able to identify the warning signs for violence and methods for reporting safety-related concerns, as well as describe strategies for being an upstander.

The training is supported by grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Colorado Department of Public Safety and builds upon CSPV’s ongoing efforts to enhance the university’s framework for violence prevention with ongoing support from the CU Boulder Police Department.

As a reminder to staff, CU Boulder also has confidential support resources for the campus community.

CU Boulder’s Student Support and Case Management office connects students with assistance, such as mental health resources, support resources, and intervention for students. If the concern involves an employee, the Behavioral Intervention Team will be made aware.
The Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance is where responsible employees, as mandatory reporters, are required to report information about protected-class discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct.
The Office of Victim Assistance offers confidential support, including free trauma-specific counseling services as well as victim advocacy (helping people know their options and get assistance navigating systems), to CU Boulder students, staff and faculty who have experienced traumatic events, including but not limited to crime, abuse, violence, harassment, stalking, discrimination and more.
Counseling and Psychiatric Services offers confidential, on-campus mental health and psychiatric services for a variety of concerns such as academics, anxiety, body image, depression, relationships, substance use and more. This office serves CU Boulder students.
The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program offers confidential counseling to serve the emotional and psychological needs of CU Boulder employees. All FSAP staff are trained as generalist counselors and are equipped to deal with a wide range of mental health, personal and work-related issues. You must be a CU Boulder employee to use FSAP services.

The easy-to-access material mimics in-person presentation content and is now available to all CU System affiliates online.

Compensation

Eligible faculty, research faculty, and university staff have received annual salary adjustments in their January 2024 paycheck. Email notifications to eligible employees went out from HR recently. Reference our HR Compensation page if you have any questions.

FAMLI

FAMLI is officially live as of January 1! Starting January 1, 2024, individuals can use FAMLI leave to take time away from work to:

Care for a new child, including adopted and fostered children.
Care for themselves or a family member if they have a serious health condition.
Make arrangements for a family member’s military deployment.
Address the immediate safety needs and impact of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.

Family Medical Leave (FMLA), Parental Leave (PPL), Short term disability (STD), and FAMLI will be administered through the System Office. The portal is now open for applications though the employee portal. For specific instructions, please click here.

CU Boulder HR is currently working with OFA, Deans' Offices, and the Graduate school regarding workflow processes and paid parental leave policy updates.

$5 Discounted Parking

Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) is excited to announce that they will be continuing their popular $5 daily parking rate.

Intended for faculty and staff who only need occasional parking on campus, the program allows users to purchase spaces in various available lots in advance for a discounted daily rate of $5 per day. Purchases can be completed via the CU Boulder Parking Services portal. Additionally, step-by-step instructions are available on the Parking and Transportation Options page.

A few important things to remember:

You must use the CU Boulder Parking Services portal to purchase your day permit. It will not work on the ParkMobile app or the CU-specific ParkMobile website used in previous semesters.
This rate applies to specific lots and is dependent on space availability. If possible, always check the parking portal for availability prior to parking in a specific lot.
Permits are available for purchase to accounts in good standing, meaning accounts with a $0 balance due. If there are extenuating circumstances, please contact Parking Services directly to request an exemption.

Staff and Faculty Parking Permits Available Online

Good news! Faculty and Staff on monthly payroll can now purchase their parking permit online. You no longer need to submit applications and allocation forms.

Employees can log into the online parking portal using their IdentiKey and choose from the permit/lot options available. Step by step instructions can be found here. For long term parking, select the Employee: Standard Parking option. Eligible frontline employees will choose the Employee: Frontline Discounted Parking option. Other permit options include online off campus permits, off peak permits, daily discounted permits, and motorcycle permits.

In addition to selecting from the available lots, you also have the option to join a waiting list if your preferred lot is not available. If you need to park now, you should first choose an available permit/lot then view the permit to request a lot change. You can switch lots to another available location or join a waiting list for a lot that is currently sold out. Payment options include both pretax and post-tax payroll deductions which occur at the end of the month for which you had a permit. Permits with a start date on or after the 15th of the month will have their first month's price prorated to $30.00. Ongoing deductions will continue until you submit a request for cancellation of your permit.
