The Tibet Himalaya Initiative was honored to host a lunch symposium with 乐播传媒 women writers Tsedron Kyi, Nyima Tso, and Min Nangzey at Koenig Alumni Center on April 22nd. These writers are prominent women's voices in the 乐播传媒 literary scene, both on the plateau and in the diaspora.听
The lunch symposium was an intimate gathering of 20 THI faculty, visiting scholars, local translators, alumni, and graduate students. We had the opportunity to hear about the literary journeys of each writer and engage in informal discussion with them.
This was听a follow up to the public event, Emerging Voices: 乐播传媒 Women Writers (attended by approximately 75) on Thursday evening the 21st, in which the writers听read from their works, a combination of poetry and short stories, in 乐播传媒 followed by a reading of the听translations.
Nicole Willock (Old Dominion University) introduced the event with a lecture on the history of听contemporary 乐播传媒 literature from seminal figures such as Tseten Zhabdrung, the topic of her book听听(Columbia University Press, 2021), up to emerging publications by 乐播传媒 women writers.
About the 乐播传媒 Writers:
Tsedronkyi (嘟氞胶嗉嬥溅嗑掄静嘟监綋嗉嬥溅嗑愢颈嘟侧綉) is a short story writer from Chapcha, Amdo and teacher of 乐播传媒 language and literature. She has published two books of collected short stories, A Melancholy Drama (嘟︵緪嗑编郊嗉嬥溅嗑｀絼嗉嬥絺嘟侧紜嘟熰境嘟监溅嗉嬥絺嘟⑧紞 2005) and Clinging (嘟炧胶嘟撪紞嗉� 2016).
Nyima Tso (嘟夃讲嗉嬥綐嗉嬥綘嘟氞郊嗉�) is a poet and short story writer from Labrang, who currently lives in Dharamshala. She has published two books of collected poems and short stories respectively: The First Journey of This Life (嘟樴讲嗉嬥綒嘟亨紜嘟犩綉嘟侧綘嘟侧紜嘟犩絺嗑侧酱嘟｀紜嘟栢綖嘟脆綉嗉嬥綈嘟亨絼嘟︵紜嘟戉絼嗉嬥綌嘟监紞 2003) and A Fragment (嘟熰酱嘟⑧紜嘟炧讲嘟� Zhur zhig 2007).
Min-Nangzey (嘟︵鲸嘟侧綋嗉嬥溅嗑｀絼嗉嬥綐嘟涏胶嘟︵紞) is an emerging poet and essayist from Golok, who currently lives in Dharamshala. She has published two books of collected poems and lyrics respectively: Princess of the Snow Mountain (嘟傕絼嘟︵紜嘟⑧讲嘟犩讲嗉嬥溅嗑侧溅嗉嬥綐嘟监紞 2006) and Songs of Emotions (嘟氞郊嘟⑧紜嘟栢綘嘟侧紜嘟傕境嘟� 2015).
