Recent discoveries of the Mars Pathfinder mission will be the subject of a free public talk by ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder planetary scientist Bruce Jakosky on Sept. 3.

Jakosky, an associate professor in the geological sciences department and a member of the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics, will show and discuss visual images and other information sent back by the Mars Pathfinder spacecraft and its surface explorer, the Sojourner Rover.

He also will talk about the conclusions scientists are drawing from the Pathfinder mission, how the mission fits into the ongoing program of Mars exploration and what we can expect from the next round of space missions to the Red Planet.

Jakosky is a science team member for the upcoming Mars Global Surveyor mission, which will begin its orbit of Mars in September. He also has just completed a book to be published next year titled, “The Search for Life on Other Planets.’’

The one-hour talk, “Results from the Mars Pathfinder Mission,’’ will begin at 7 p.m, Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Fiske Planetarium on the CU-Boulder campus.

Admission is free, but seating is limited. Tickets will be available starting at 6 p.m. the night of the show. Call 492-5002 for information.

Free parking is available during the evenings along Regent Drive.
