Robert Norris Maust has been appointed director of a program sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to reduce the use and abuse of alcohol at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder, according to Ronald Stump, dean of students at CU-Boulder.
The appointment is subject to approval by the Board of Regents.
The program, titled “A Matter of Degree,” was funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation last year. CU-Boulder’s grant was one of four the foundation funded at campuses across the nation and it was the largest at $860,769.
Maust begins his new position at CU-Boulder on Aug. 18 and will replace Joanne Dodgson, who resigned to take a position at Oregon State University.
Maust, who has a law degree from Wayne State University and is completing a doctorate in education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, has extensive experience in student affairs programs. He was vice president and dean of students at Kalamazoo College from 1980 to 1984 and was vice president for enrollment management and student affairs at North Adams State College in Massachusetts from 1985 to 1993.
At Kalamazoo College Maust modified the use of judicial sanctions in cases where students had abused alcohol in order to increase opportunities for students to learn from disciplinary processes.
At North Adams State he obtained a grant for enhanced substance abuse education, which has been renewed and expanded.
