Leonard Riskin, a professor of law and director of the Center for the Study of Dispute Resolution at the University of Missouri-Columbia, will be a visiting professor at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ School of Law from June 29 through July 13.
Riskin, who is this year's Charles Inglis Thomson Guest Professor of Law, will hold informational sessions with faculty interested in curriculum and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and will also be visiting Boulder and Denver law firms.
At 4 p.m. on July 7, Riskin will give a talk titled "ADR Obligations under the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct." The event will be held in the Hershner Room of the Norwest Bank Building at 1700 Lincoln St. in Denver.
The talk has a registration fee of $15, which will be collected at the door. It covers both the hour-long talk and catered reception.
Riskin has published numerous books and articles on dispute resolution. His writings have appeared in many law journals and popular publications such as the New York Times Magazine, Washington Post and Atlantic Monthly.
At the University of Missouri School of Law, Riskin developed a program to integrate dispute resolution into standard, first-year law school courses and has worked with numerous law schools in the United States and Canada. Dean Hal Bruff of the CU-Boulder School of Law said he is proud to have such a sought-after scholar as a visiting professor.
Olivia Thomson established the Charles Inglis Thomson Guest Professor of Law in 1915 in honor of her husband, a noted attorney and judge. The endowment funds the salary for a distinguished authority in a selected field of law.
