Author, actress, stand-up comedienne and talk show host Bertice Berry will give a lecture at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder on Monday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Mathematics building, room 100.

The event is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by Sojourners Undergraduate Research Association and the Cultural Events Board.

Berry will discuss the importance of cultural diversity and the journey toward meaning and purpose in people's lives. The talk is designed to encourage self-reflection and criticism and heighten awareness about the experiences of people of color, according to Robyn Autry of the Sojourners Association.

Berry's use of humor to discuss serious issues such as sexism and racism makes her a highly sought speaker on the college lecture circuit. She also has been a guest on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and National Public RadioÂ’s "Morning Edition."

Berry currently hosts and is a cast member of "The World According to Us," an all women sketch show televised on the Lifetime network. She formerly was the co-executive producer and host of her own nationally syndicated talk show, "The Bertice Berry Show."

In 1997, Berry was the keynote speaker at CU-Colorado Springs' 5th Annual Colorado Women of Color in Higher Education Conference.

She is the author of two books, "Bertice: The World According to Me," and "Straight From the Ghetto."

Berry holds a doctorate in sociology from Kent State University.
