The Clifford Calhoun Public Service Award, given to a CU-Boulder law student or faculty member who contributes to the public service mission of the law school, was awarded to law Professor Mark Loewenstein in a May luncheon ceremony on campus.
The award is named in honor of CU-Boulder emeritus law Professor Clifford Calhoun in recognition of his contributions to the School of Law, the legal community and beyond, which exemplify the spirit and tradition of Calhoun's altruistic career. Calhoun attended the ceremony, flying in from Burlington, Iowa, where he's been living since his retirement last May.
Calhoun praised Professor Loewenstein for his exceptional record of service to the bar and the community.
Professor Loewenstein, who was unable to accept the award in person due to a family illness, said he was "particularly gratified to receive this award," calling Calhoun, "a dear friend and someone I admire deeply." He said he was honored to be selected "among a pretty impressive group" of colleagues in the law school.
His wife, Linda Loewenstein, accepted the award and the $500 stipend.
Most of the law faculty, staff and the entire emeritus faculty, including Professor Art Travers, last year's recipient, attended the ceremony.
