The Fulbright Scholar Program has awarded grants to three ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder graduate students for research and study abroad during the 1999-2000 academic year.
The grants are used to support graduate study and research abroad in a student's academic field or to receive professional training in the creative and performing arts.
Ann May, a doctoral candidate in anthropology, was awarded a grant to conduct research on rural children working as street vendors in East Africa. Pam Nguyen will study the gender role, identity and development of Vietnamese women in a transitional economy. Nguyen also is a doctoral candidate in anthropology.
Aliza Wong, a doctoral candidate in history, will conduct research on the construction of race in the development of the Italian national identity. Jennifer Foster, a doctoral candidate in geography, was selected as an alternate for South Africa.
Applicants must be proficient in the language of the host country where they study in addition to passing a U.S. committee screening and being accepted by the host country.
The deadline to apply for the 2000-01 student program is Sept. 27.
The Fubright Scholar Program also has announced that the deadline for faculty to apply for lecture and research grants for the 2000-01 academic year is Aug. 1. Faculty lecture and advanced research grants are available in nearly 125 countries.
