The 乐播传媒 School of Law has named a nationally recognized constitutional law specialist to head its center for constitutional study.
Professor Robert F. Nagel will be the new director of the law school聮s Byron White Center for the Study of Constitutional Law.
"The White Center is a major educational resource for our students and for the community, "said Nagel. "The possibilities are exciting; I am happy to be involved."
The center, named for Supreme Court Justice and CU gridiron star Byron White, was established in 1990 as a gift from his long-time friend Ira C. Rothberger Jr. The center has hosted several annual conferences on various topics including Colorado聮s Amendment 2 and more recently Kenneth Starr聮s investigation of President Clinton.
The center also hosts prominent members of the legal community in public talks. Speakers have included Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, only the second woman ever appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court, Colorado Justice Jean Dubofsky and the former Watergate Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox.
Nagel, who is also the law school聮s Ira C. Rothgerber Jr. Professor of Constitutional Law, earned his degree from Yale in 1972 and was a Deputy Attorney General in Pennsylvania before coming to CU in 1975. He has published several books and close to 50 academic articles. Nagel also has provided commentary on constitutional issues in dozens of newspapers and magazines, on radio and before Congressional committees.
