Nationally syndicated columnist Barbara Feldman has awarded five stars this week to "The Glacier Story," a Web site created by the communications group at the 乐播传媒 at Boulder聮s National Snow and Ice Data Center.
Feldman聮s weekly column, "Surfing the Net with Kids," is distributed internationally by the Los Angeles Times Syndicate and devoted to "What聮s wonderful on the Net" for family entertainment and education. It can be accessed at: .
"The Glacier Story" leads users through a nine-page tour in the life of a glacier, said Laura Cheshire, NSIDC聮s graphic artist. Cheshire selected rare historic photos archived by the World Data Center for Glaciology at NSIDC to illustrate concepts such as glacier formation, growth, movement and decline.
With K-12 schools all over the nation resuming classes in the next several weeks, the timing of Feldman聮s award is terrific, said Cheshire. The NSIDC material is accessible to a range of ages well-suited for school research projects.
Combining compelling historical photos of famous glaciers and glaciologists around the world with a lively and informative text, the "Glacier Story" is only one chapter of a larger NSIDC Web site, "All About Glaciers." The larger site includes glacier facts, answers to common glacier questions, a gallery, glossary, bibliographies and a collection of links to related online glacier information, she said.
