Michael Delaney has been named director of the Office of International Education at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder, according to Elease Robbins, associate vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students.
The appointment was recently approved by Chancellor Richard Byyny. Delaney will assume the position on Feb. 15.
Delaney has held the post on an interim basis since July and replaces former director Jean Delaney, who became manager of the Student Odyssey Project last semester.
"We are pleased that Michael accepted this permanent appointment because of the many years of experience he brings to the office and to the division of student affairs. Additionally, he is recognized in higher education as an expert and leader in the field of international education," Robbins said.
Delaney, a CU employee since 1977 and an alumnus of the university, has held several positions in the Office of International Education, including co-director of the CU-Boulder program at the University of Lancaster, England, Study Abroad adviser, director of the Study Abroad program and associate director of OIE.
Delaney obtained a bachelor's degree in English from CU-Boulder and has done non-degree graduate work in English and history. He also received a Fulbright International Education Administrators grant for studies in Japan and Korea.
As director of OIE, Delaney will be responsible for overall operations of the unit, including oversight of the Foreign Student and Scholar Services and the Study Abroad Programs. He also will continue to serve as the campus Fulbright adviser and director of the Smith Hall International Program.
The director of the Office of International Education reports to the associate vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students and participates in the collective efforts of the division.
