The Office of Diversity and Equity at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder awarded six faculty, staff and students the 2002 Equity and Excellence Awards on Thursday, April 25, at the 17th Annual Equity and Excellence Graduation Ceremony and Awards Banquet.

A special award was presented to Ofelia Miramontes, associate vice chancellor for diversity and equity, by students in the McNair Scholars Program. McNair prepares selected CU-Boulder undergraduates to study at the doctoral level. The scholars' award acknowledged Miramontes' support of their efforts to advance to a graduate education.

Equity and Excellence awards are given to faculty and staff whose work best exemplifies a commitment to promoting the principles of academic excellence, cultural pluralism and diversity in the university community. ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ are selected who demonstrate outstanding service to the university community and within the multiculturally diverse communities on campus, in addition to demonstrating academic excellence. Awardees received a certificate and a $250 award.

The 2002 recipients are:

-Undergraduate student awards: Noah Schabaker and Xochitl Chavez

-Graduate Student award: Isabel Martinez

-Staff awards: Rose Garcia and Kenneth Conner

-Faculty award: Thomas Mayer
