Live music and art displays will be featured at a free public celebration May 10 and May 11 presented by the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder's Graduate ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ of Color, the campus AM station Radio 1190 and the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
"Slick and Grace's Wild Art Ride," will begin May 10 with music from 3 p.m. to midnight. Rock, funk, jazz and hip-hop bands and performance artists will play at the Boulder Bandshell on the corner of Broadway and Canyon Boulevard. The festivities continue May 11 with an art show and food in the Humanities building on campus from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
A series of black-and-white photos depicting two mannequins in various poses inspired the name of the event.
"The overall theme is figures in society," said organizer Tanya Plotnick Vega. "The mannequins are the central figures in the theme."
Vega is organizing the events along with fellow graduate students Kimberly Malesky and Alexander Villacorta, as well as Boulder resident Mike Calvaresi. Organizers hope a crowd of students and local residents of all backgrounds will turn out, Vega said.
"It started as a photo shoot, and it grew to the art show and now we're making it a two-day event," she said.
