The award, now in its third year, is named for Marinus G. Smith, a Colorado pioneer who made significant financial and land donations to the university to locate in Boulder at the base of the Flatirons.

According to Peter Simons, director of CU-Boulder's Office of Parent Relations, students were asked to nominate candidates who were deserving of this recognition during Parents Weekend last fall. The awards will be presented in a ceremony on April 5 at 11 a.m. at the University Club.
