The Office of the Provost is coordinating a test deployment of eportfolio technology in 2016-2017. While the concept of electronic portfolios for students has been around for a number of years, the technology has only recently improved to the point where it is easy for faculty to adopt a platform that their students could easily integrate into their classroom environments.

During the 2015-2016 academic year, a limited pilot was deployed in eight classes to evaluate available tools for eplatform use by students and faculty. The result of this pilot was the selection of Digication for a larger test at the CU-Boulder campus (see for examples and further description of the platform). As part of this continuing test, we are going to expand the number of faculty and students who are using the tool during the 2016-2017 academic year. This is a call for participation for the fall 2016 semester, the spring 2017 semester or both.

What does participation require? Participation in the test means that you will agree to deploy the Digication platform in some part of your class (you as the faculty member can decide how integrated you want the tool to be in the course). There are different ways to use Digication - from just an electronic presence similar to a Web presence, to an integrated tool that allows you as a faculty member to review portfolios as part of assignments, and as a community tool to allow communication in a classroom. The tool was used in each capacity during the early trial. You can choose how you would like to deploy the tool in your classroom.

Digication is extremely easy to learn and use. However, training and support are available for individual faculty members as well as for students in the class. During the semester you will be asked to submit two simple evaluation forms, one at the semester mid-point and one at the end of the semester. That is the entire commitment. The goal is to determine if eportfolios can provide an opportunity for students to retain a portfolio of work throughout their time at CU which combines both classroom experiences as well as outside interests.
