The HAWK (High-intensity Activated crossWalK) light on Regent Drive near Colorado Avenue has been provided by the city of Boulder to allow pedestrians, bikersÌýand boarders a safe way to cross a busy street.ÌýThere are a few simple rules to help make this a safe crossing for pedestrians and drivers.

  • Pedestrians should treat this like any other lighted crosswalk.ÌýPress the button and wait for the walk sign. Remember, it’s illegal in Boulder to enter the crosswalk if the hand signal is flashing or solid.ÌýFailure to follow these rules could result in a ticket and a $50 fine.
  • Bikers and boarders need to slow down as you approach the crosswalk from the west side of Regent Drive.ÌýRemember, you must follow the same rules as pedestrians or you may be subject to the same ticket and fine.
  • For drivers, if the light is not on, you can travel through the crosswalk. If the yellow light is flashing, be prepared to stop. If the yellow light is solid or the double red lights are solid, stop and wait.ÌýBut, if the red lights are flashing, you may go only after coming to a stop and making sure that the crosswalk is clear.
