As part of his commitment to student success, the provost has convened a committee charged with developing aÌýrecommendation forÌýconsidering a campuswide center for teaching and learning. The provost has asked this committee to present him with a recommendation byÌýMarch 31, 2017, and that it include the following:

  • Identify existing units concerned with teaching and learning,Ìý
  • Consider the role of faculty governance andÌýthe organizational structure for a campus-wide unit,
  • Articulate obstacles to this task, such as space utilization and staff support,
  • Write a vision statement to guide such a center, its mission and purpose,
  • Define an initial set of action steps to put the center in place and
  • Consider the campus’Ìýcommitment to inclusive excellence and design clear guidelines for inclusive pedagogy.

The charge represents an opportunity. At this time the committee is just beginning its work. As the committee proceeds, it will develop subgroups to include a broader constituency and a communication plan.

The committee is co-chaired by William Kuskin, professor of English and vice provost for strategic initiatives, and Paul Chinowsky, professor of civil, environmentalÌýand architectural engineering and associate vice provost for student success.
