The next听Engaged听Scientist Series lecture and听workshop听is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 19, and will focus on听"Uses and Practices of Community Dialogue in Geosciences and Environmental Sciences."
As communities increasingly grapple with problems of resiliency and environmental health and safety, scientists who are prepared to help are needed.听The Engaged Scientist series of free public talks and associated workshops for graduate students and post-doctoral researchers aims to equip scientists with community engagement skills.
Boulder Talks Directors听Phaedra Pezzullo听and Leah Sprain of the听CU听College for Media, Communication and Information (CMCI) will give a public lecture on fostering community dialogue from听4 to 5 p.m. if you plan to attend. Although registration for the lecture portion of the event is听requested, it is not required.
Pezzullo,听Sprain听and Susan听Sullivan, the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) education outreach director,听will then听co-lead the听associated听workshop for graduate听students and听post-docs from听5:30 to听8:30 p.m.听, and dinner will be provided for participants.

- Analyzing real-world transcripts of scientists communicating during community dialogues听and
- Practicing framing your research with feedback to help you move toward your goals.听
Both events听will be听hosted in听the Sustainability Innovation Lab at Colorado (SILC), room N290, at the Sustainability, Energy听and Environment Complex (SEEC)听on听East Campus.
The Engaged Scientist Series听is听coordinated听by CU's new Albert A. Bartlett Science Communication Center, CIRES Education and Outreach, INSTAAR听and the Office for Outreach and Engagement program,听Learn More About the Climate (LMAC).
