First-Year Seminars are academically rigorous 3-credit courses, limited to 19 first year students. Their purpose is to engage new students intellectually, strengthen core academic skillsÌýand provide opportunities for faculty mentoring.

Faculty from all units and colleges are invited to propose a seminar on a topic of their choice for fall 2020/spring 2021. Innovative and multi-disciplinary topics are encouraged, and the FYS program offers possibilities for linking courses across disciplines, or for incorporating a brief study abroad experience.
