Welcome to November! We are officially past the midpoint of the semester, and fall break is just around the corner. There are a ton of fun events coming up this month including gaming tournaments at The Connection, resume and professional help, self-care tips, DIY Nights, free Rec classes and more.

In celebration of 58 years at CU Boulder, the Volunteer Resource Center is holding an open house. Enjoy light refreshments while learning more about the VRC’s accomplishments over the years.

Nov. 3 ǴDz Imig Music, Chamber Hall (S102)
“The Whistleblower of My Lai” is a film which tackles the concept of heroism. It follows the opera production of “My Lai.”

Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) is having a hybrid workshop where participants practice mindfulness and learn about a work of art. Both in-person and virtual participants are welcome.

The stars of tomorrow are on stage today at CU Boulder. During student recitals, undergraduate and graduate students will perform both old and contemporary pieces in degree qualifying recitals.

CU on the Weekend: ‘Defining Beer in the Ancient World’

Nov. 3 1–2:30 p.m. CASE auditorium
This CU on the Weekend presentation by Travis Rupp, a CU Boulder lecturer and beer archaeologist, will examine the earliest archaeological evidence of beer and brewing.

Nov. 3 7–8 p.m. Pearl Street Mall

Student Affairs and the dean of students are hosting a tailgating tradition before the homecoming game this Saturday. Enjoy free food and games during the event.

This is a marathon showcase featuring brass, piano, string and wind chamber music. It will show off the talents of Chamber Music Program students who have spent time mastering these pieces.

Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) is holding multiple Anxiety Toolbox workshops throughout the semester. During the event, attendees will learn about managing social, test and general anxiety.

Do you like horses? During this volunteer activity, you will help prepare the horses and barn for winter at the Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center.

The Pride Office hosts Queer Cheer each week as a way to de-stress, make arts and crafts and do other lowkey activities. Drop in and enjoy eachothers’ company.

Visit the Mobile Food Pantry to receive up to 30 pounds of food in multiple boxes. Food is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Enjoy restorative yoga, a gentle and intentional practice that focuses on different parts of the body that may need release. This session is for veterans and military members. Sound bowls and gongs will be played during this time.

‘Bridging Worlds: A Sherpa’s Story’

Nov. 9 7–8 p.m. Fiske Planetarium
In “Bridging Worlds,” Pemba Sherpa offers his unique perspective on the contrasting worlds of Nepal and the U.S. In his lifetime, he went from living in a Nepalese village to becoming an accomplished businessman. Afterward, Pemba and his co-author will be doing a book signing.

“Shake it Off” at Buffalo Nite! Swifties are invited to an evening of Taylor Swift-themed activities, games and music. There will even be an Era’s Tour-themed costume contest, so come dressed as your favorite era.

Celebrate and honor U.S. Veterans with this ceremony at the UMC. The Vice President for Geostrategic Risk, Institute for Security and Technology, Ben Purser, will be speaking at the event.

‘Earth at Sun’s Mercy: Living under a Star’

This talk will explore how humanity has adapted to living under the sun. Solar physicist Ryan French will discuss the incredibly dynamic star that causes both danger and life.

Join the CU Symphony Orchestra for the “Gaelic Symphony” byAmy Beach,the first American woman to compose and publish a symphony. The featured soloist will be Dawna Rae Warren, winner of the graduate division of the Honors Competition, singing Richard Strauss’ beautiful Brentano Lieder, Op. 68. The program will begin with Franz Schubert’s elegant Overture in the Italian Style in C major.
