MEDIA ADVISORY CU-Boulder memorial service for astronaut-alumna Kalpana Chawla set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at University Memorial Center A public memorial service for CU-Boulder alumna Kalpana Chawla, one of seven astronauts who died Saturday on the space shuttle Columbia, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, in the University Memorial Center at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder. The memorial service will be in the Glenn Miller Ballroom of the UMC, located at Broadway and Euclid Avenue in Boulder.

Liquid Crystals Topic Of CU Wizards Feb. 15 Show

The scientific concepts of light, polarization and optics will be explained through a number of experiments, including creating a giant soap bubble, during the Feb. 15 CU Wizards show "Liquid Crystals." ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder physics faculty members Noel Clark and Joseph Maclennan and chemistry Professor David Walba will present the show at 9:30 a.m. in Duane Physics room G1B30. The show, aimed primarily at students in grades five through nine, is free and open to the public.

CU-Boulder Judicial Affairs Announces New Coordinator

"We're extremely pleased that she decided to accept the position," said Matthew Lopez-Phillips, director of the Office of Judicial Affairs. "I think she provides a tremendous amount of leadership and experience to the office."

Joyces Donate $3 Million To CU-Boulder's Leeds School For Endowed Chair In Finance

The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder and the CU Foundation have announced that Raymond and Dorothy Joyce have donated $3 million in a bequest to establish an endowed chair in finance at the Leeds School of Business. "The Joyce gift for an endowed chair allows us the opportunity to attract, honor and retain some of the best teaching and research talent in the nation," said Steven Manaster, dean of the Leeds School. "That talent, in turn, attracts leading students and other renowned faculty to our campus."

CU-Boulder To Simulate Black Hole At Fiske Planetarium

The mysteries of black holes will be discussed at Fiske Planetarium on the campus of the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder on Friday, Feb. 7, and Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 7:30 p.m. Professor Andrew Hamilton will present the live star show, "Black Holes and Relativity," as part of the spring 2003 schedule of monthly astronomy talks. The live talks are given by CU-Boulder professors and guest lecturers.
