CIRES Hosts Regional Ocean Sciences Bowl

Twenty-two student teams from 13 local high schools will gather on the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½'s Boulder campus Saturday, Feb. 23, to compete in the fourth regional competition of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl. Covering biology, chemistry, geology, ocean physics, navigation, geography and related history and literature, the contest is designed to stimulate interest among high school students in ocean sciences.

Phi Delta Theta Fraternity Hosts Hill Cleanup Feb. 24

CU Fraternity Phi Delta Theta is kicking off an effort to foster greater partnership and harmony with the Boulder Hill community on Feb. 24 at noon with a fraternity-sponsored Hill Cleanup. A long-time favorite activity of the fraternity and Hill residents, the cleanup is aimed at creating a cleaner neighborhood and happier residents. People who want to participate in the cleanup should meet at noon at the Phi Delta Theta house at 1111 College Ave.

Journalism Professor Polly McLean Presents Project On Boulder County's Black Women Feb. 22 At CU-Boulder

Professor Polly McLean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder will co-host a reception to launch a student produced book "A Legacy of Missing Pieces: The Voices of Black Women of Boulder County" on Friday, Feb. 22. The reception is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Center for British Studies, Norlin Library, fifth floor.

CU's Deming Center For Entrepreneurship Appoints Four New Members To Advisory Board

The CU-Boulder Deming Center for Entrepreneurship has appointed four new members to its advisory board. The accomplished business leaders are Arlyn Dozeman, Robert Gill, Michael Leeds and Peter Van Genderen. Dozeman is a partner in Ernst & Young's Colorado Technology Group. He has more than 25 years experience serving a wide variety of clients in assurance, tax and consulting capacities and has worked with a large number of emerging fast-growth companies. He received his bachelor's degree from Calvin College and his MBA from Western Michigan University.

CU-Boulder To Host Odyssey Of The Mind World Finals May 22-25

Thousands of students from around the world will converge on the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder campus May 22-25 to compete in the 23rd annual Odyssey of the Mind World Finals. About 700 teams will participate in the event, which challenges students to come up with the most creative, original and imaginative ways to solve a selection of problems.

Noted Paleoclimatologist To Discuss Role Of Earth's Orbit On Climate Change

Michael Bender, a Princeton University professor of geosciences and a fellow of the American Geophysical Union, will present a new method of dating ice cores at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder on Friday, Feb. 22. Bender will speak at 4 p.m. in the auditorium of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, room 338. The talk is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.

Fiske Planetarium To Explore Traditional Navajo Views Of The Sky

Navajo star and constellation myths, including the story of the creation of stars, will be explored during live astronomy shows at Fiske Planetarium in March on the campus of the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder. John Stocke, a CU-Boulder professor of astrophysical and planetary sciences, will present "Navajo Skies" at Fiske Planetarium on Friday, March 1, and Tuesday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m.
