CU-Boulder Invites Public To Land Use Assessment Overview

The public is invited to a presentation of the proposed conceptual land use assessment for the 308-acre CU-Boulder South property at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. The open house will be in the Coors Events/Conference Center on the conference level, located on the north side of the center. The public is invited to attend the open house to see and discuss the analysis that led to the development of the land use assessment map. Written comments also will be taken.

CU-Boulder Fares Well In U.S. News & World Report Rankings Of Best Colleges

The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder fared well again in the U.S. News &World ReportÂ’s 2002 edition of AmericaÂ’s Best Colleges, slated to hit newsstands Sept. 10. In a ranking of the top 50 public national universities offering doctoral programs, CU-Boulder was ranked 28th, the highest in the Rocky Mountain region. CU-Boulder was tied with Indiana University-Bloomington, Miami University of Ohio, Michigan State University, SUNY Binghamton, California State University-Riverside, California State University-Santa Cruz and the University of Connecticut.

CU-Boulder's Visiting Artist Lecture Series Kicks Off Sept. 18

The fine arts department at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder will kick off its Visiting Artist Lecture series for fall 2001 on Tuesday, Sept. 18, with a public talk by Cuban photographer Cirenaica Moreira. The lecture will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Sibell Wolle Fine Arts Building room N141 and is free and open to the public. Moreira, whose work is internationally known, is part of a vital, new generation of Cuban conceptual photographers. Her photographs often juxtapose the female body with various materials including industrialized sculptural body parts.

CU-Boulder Buys Into 3.5 Meter Telescope Consortium In Southeastern New Mexico

The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder has joined a consortium of five major universities that are conducting research using a 3.5-meter telescope at Apache Point Observatory, located northeast of Las Cruces, N.M. The Astrophysical Research Consortium, or ARC, consists of Princeton University, the University of Chicago, the University of Washington, Johns Hopkins University, New Mexico State University and CU-Boulder.

CU-Boulder Department Of Housing To Host Annual Global Jam Sept. 13

The Housing department at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder will hold its 11th annual Global Jam smorgasbord of culturally diverse foods on Thursday, Sept. 13, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Farrand Field. "This special event is an opportunity for the CU community to celebrate other cultures through ethnic entertainment and cuisine," said Steve Weaver, CU-Boulder residence hall director. "Learning about and finding joy in our differences is a unique opportunity and journey for our community. Our hope is that Global Jam will be a part of this journey."

Jan Whitt And Mark W. Williams Named Faculty Co-Directors Of CU-Boulder Undergraduate Academy

Jan Whitt, associate professor of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and Mark W. Williams, associate professor of the department of geography, the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research and the environmental studies program, have been appointed as faculty co-directors for the Undergraduate Academy at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder. The appointments were announced by Michael Grant, associate vice chancellor for undergraduate education and are subject to approval by Chancellor Richard Byyny.

CU-Boulder Parents Association Hosts Fall Parents Weekend Sept. 21-23

More than 4,000 parents and families of CU-Boulder students are expected to attend the annual Fall Parents Weekend a month earlier than usual, Sept. 21-23, due to this year's football schedule. The event draws parents from around the United States and from several foreign countries. Parents and families can register to attend over the Internet, which accounted for approximately half of all registrations last year, according to Peter Simons, director of parent relations.

CU's Department Of East Asian Languages, Civilizations Awarded For Teaching, Outreach

Fiske Planetarium Presents "Seven Wonders"

Calendar Item Fiske Planetarium at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder will tour the seven wonders of the ancient world during "Seven Wonders" on Friday, Sept. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the planetarium. Burt Lancaster will guide the pre-recorded tour in a search for the seven wonders of the solar system and the universe. Tickets go on sale at 7 p.m. the night of the show and are $4 for adults and $3 for seniors and children. Fiske Planetarium is located at Regent Drive and Kittredge Loop Drive on the CU-Boulder campus.
