CU-Boulder Libraries Group Presents Glenn Miller Program

"Portrait: Glenn Miller," a program centered on the life of the famous bandleader, will be presented on Thursday, Oct. 12, by the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Friends of the Libraries. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel at The Academy, 970 Aurora Ave. in Boulder. The program is free and open to the public.

CU-Boulder Institutes Fall Break Oct. 5-6

For the first time on the campus of the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder, a fall break is being instituted this year on Oct. 5-6, providing a two-day break during which classes will not be held. "The break is designed to give students a short breather during what would otherwise be 12 weeks of continuous classes between Labor Day and Thanksgiving," said William Kaempfer, associate vice chancellor of academic affairs.

Front Range Homebuilder Creates Endowed Chair Through Gift To CU-Boulder

CU-Boulder Fraternity Makes Balloon Drop At Senior Centers On Friday, Sept. 29

Fraternity and staff members from the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder will distribute about 500 balloons to senior centers in Boulder on Friday, Sept. 29, following a day-long campus career fair at the Coors/Events Conference Center. Several volunteers from the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and the CU-Boulder Office of Community Relations will deliver the black, gold and white balloons from the fair to senior centers and residence homes in Boulder. The balloons will be delivered Friday from about 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Nationally Recognized Entrepreneur To Speak At CU On Management Issues

As the president and CEO of SRC Holdings Corp., Stack spearheaded the turnaround of Springfield Remanufacturing Corp. in the 1980s.

Search For Intelligent Life Topic Of Oct. 10 Symposium

An internationally known group of speakers will gather at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. in the Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building, room 140, to debate the possibility of intelligent life beyond Earth. Panelists at the free public symposium, "Is There Intelligent Life Elsewhere?" will talk about the ongoing search for life away from Earth and will dissect some of the major questions surrounding the idea, before opening the floor for debate.

CU-Boulder Planetary Scientist To Present "New Views Of Mars"

Planetary Scientist Steven Lee will continue the Fall ChancellorÂ’s Community Lecture series with his presentation of "New Views of Mars: The History and Future of Mars Exploration" at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11, at The Academy. The program is free and open to the public and attendees will be able to use 3-D glasses during LeeÂ’s visual presentation. The program will show how telescopic and spacecraft observations have been used to explore the planet Mars.

CU-Boulder Student Enrollment Up 1.5 Percent Over Fall 1999

Enrollment at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder has hit another all-time high for degree-seeking students this fall with a total enrollment of 26,035, according to Barbara Schneider, executive director of enrollment management. The freshman class is 12 percent higher than in 1999 but the rate of growth in overall enrollment this year is smaller than in previous years. Decreases in graduate student and transfer student enrollment have offset gains in undergraduate enrollment.

CU-Boulder Professors Make Presentations To Colorado Science Teachers On Sept. 29

Several ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder professors and science educators will speak to teachers on topics ranging from "Smart Goo" to "The Physics of Basketball" at the Colorado Science Convention on Sept. 29. About 1,000 science teachers from throughout the state are expected to attend the daylong event at the Denver Merchandize Mart, 451 E. 58th Ave.
