Two CU-Boulder Engineering Alums To Fly On NASA Space Shuttle Nov. 19

Two ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ alums will make their first journeys into space on Wednesday, Nov. 19, when NASAÂ’s space shuttle Columbia blasts off from Cape Kennedy, bringing the total number of CU-Boulder astronaut alums to 15.

New Program Links CU Grad ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ With Professors At Other Schools

A new program will link doctoral students at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder with professors at other Colorado colleges and universities. "The goal is to expand the teaching experiences of aspiring professors and expose them to institutions where the majority of teaching jobs are found," said Hoag Holmgren, assistant director of the Graduate Teacher Program. "More jobs are available at liberal arts schools, smaller state schools and community colleges than at major research universities like CU-Boulder."

CU Names Two Distinguished Professors

Richard McCray, professor of astrophysical and planetary sciences, and Charles Wilkinson, professor of law, received the prestigious designation in Denver during a monthly meeting of the Board of Regents.

Suspect Arrested In Campus Assault

A suspect has been arrested in connection with a recent assault on an 18-year-old male student at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder near the Williams Village residence hall complex. LaMarcus Jenkins, 20, of Denver turned himself in to Denver police following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the CU Police Department Thursday, Nov. 6. CU detectives executed a search warrant for JenkinsÂ’ residence at about 6 p.m. The suspect was not at home when officers appeared at the residence, but came to Denver police headquarters at about 10 p.m.

CU-Boulder Physician Says Flu Shot Is The Best Bet

ItÂ’s the flu, and Wardenberg Health Center physician Jim Schlegel of the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder advises people to get immunized against it. “Someone may be in bed for three days, flat out, having to be nearly fed by someone willing enough to do that,” Schlegel says of the severity of the flu.
