Bering Land Bridge Conference In Colorado Slated For Sept. 20

Scores of scientists from around the world will be in Colorado Sept. 20 to Sept. 23 for a conference on the prehistoric environment of the Bering land bridge, believed to be the migration corridor for the earliest North Americans. The conference was organized by the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder and the University of Massachusetts with funding from the National Science Foundation. The three-day event will be held at The Nature Place Conference Center near Florissant, Colo.

CU-Boulder Astronomers To Present Star Talks At Fiske Planetarium

Fiske Planetarium at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder will continue its tradition of hosting monthly “star talks” by noted CU astronomers this fall. The live presentations for adults and children 12 and over will include use of the star projector, special effects and the latest images from NASA and major observatories.

CU-Boulder To Celebrate Chicano History Week, Sept. 17-19

The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder Latino Advocacy Committee in conjunction with United Mexican American ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ (UMAS) and the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Student Union will present three events celebrating Chicano History Week next week. Events begin with the 1997 CU-Boulder Bienvenidos Celebration, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Sept. 17, on the lawn north of Regent Hall. A welcome picnic for new Latino students, the event will feature a taco bar and regional music. Latino students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are invited to attend.

CU Foundation Hires New Vice President

Myrna Hall, interim vice president for university relations and development at San Diego State University, has been appointed vice president for development, Boulder campus, at the CU Foundation, Inc. Hall will work closely with the Boulder campus administration to develop and implement a fund-raising plan that will increase private support for CU-Boulder. Her appointment is effective Oct. 6.

CU-Boulder Real Estate Center Looks At Growth, Transportation

CU-Boulder Deals With Higher Enrollment

Schools and colleges at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder will receive extra funds to handle a larger-than-expected fall enrollment, according to an announcement by CU-Boulder Chancellor Richard L. Byyny. Although the official fall census will not be taken until Sept. 10, preliminary figures indicate the fall enrollment may top 25,000, including possibly the largest freshman class in CU-BoulderÂ’s history. Freshmen may total as many as 4,220 -- or 40 more than the all-time high set in 1995.

1998 Fiske Guide To Colleges Ranks CU-Boulder "Best Buy"

The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder is ranked in the 1998 Fiske Guide to Colleges among the best of the nationÂ’s universities and one of 21 “best buys” among the nationÂ’s public universities. The highly regarded guide to colleges is written by Edward B. Fiske, former education editor of the New York Times.

Renovated Women's Studies Cottage Takes CU-Boulder Back In Time

The Hazel Gates Woodruff Cottage, an historical landmark on the CU-Boulder campus, is open this fall after a renovation that restores the buildingÂ’s place in time. The Cottage, formerly known as the WomenÂ’s Studies Cottage No. 1, was built in 1885 to house the first womenÂ’s dormitory on campus. It originally provided dining facilities for 100, sleeping rooms for 12, a bath and an office for the chaperone on the first floor.

Success Magazine Ranks CU-Boulder Program Among Best In Nation

For the fourth consecutive year, Success magazine has named the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder one of the nation's top 25 schools for entrepreneurship education. Other colleges making the list, published in the magazineÂ’s September issue, included the University of California-Berkeley, Harvard, Northwestern, Cornell and the University of PennsylvaniaÂ’s Wharton School of Business.
