Richard A. Tharp, interim athletic director at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder since August 1996, will be recommended to the CU Board of Regents as the campusÂ’ permanent director of intercollegiate athletics, according to Chancellor Richard L. Byyny. Following an internal search, Tharp was a finalist for the job along with Theophilus D. Gregory, director of athletics at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Colorado Springs.

Local students were among about 3,800 receiving degrees May 16 in outdoor ceremonies at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder. The ChancellorÂ’s Recognition Award for students receiving all AÂ’s in their college careers was given to Shawn Timothy Stone of Monument, who received a bachelor of science in electrical and computer engineering. Stone, a graduate of Rampart High School in Colorado Springs, also was named Outstanding Graduate of the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Mary Fran Myers, co-director of the Natural Hazards Center at the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ at Boulder, has received the highest national award given by the Association of State Floodplain Managers. In receiving the 1997 Goddard-White Award, Myers was cited for two decades of leadership in flood-plain management in government and academia. She is credited with encouraging a multidisciplinary approach among flood-plain managers and for linking hazards management and sustainability.
