Average smartphone users are willing to pay up to $5 extra for a typical applicationā€”or ā€œappā€ā€”that wonā€™t monitor their locations, contact lists and other personal information, a study conducted by two economists at the ĄÖ²„“«Ć½ Boulder has found.

A searchable, comparative law database outlining water quality regulations for Colorado and other states experiencing shale oil and gas development is now available on LawAtlas.org. The Oil & Gas - Water Quality database project is led by the ĄÖ²„“«Ć½ Boulderā€™s Intermountain Oil and Gas Best Management Practices (BMP) Project in partnership with Temple Universityā€™s Public Health Law Research program and its LawAtlas.org website.

Scientists recently recorded the lowest temperatures on Earth at a desolate and remote ice plateau in East Antarctica, trumping a record set in 1983 and uncovering a new puzzle about the ice-covered continent. Glaciologist Ted Scambos and his team found temperatures from āˆ’92 to āˆ’94 degrees Celsius (āˆ’134 to āˆ’137 degrees Fahrenheit) in a 1,000-kilometer long swath on the highest section of the East Antarctic ice divide. Scambos is lead scientist at the National Snow and Ice Data Center, which is a part of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences at the ĄÖ²„“«Ć½ Boulder.

Elihuu, a startup company whose slogan is ā€œmeet your manufacturer,ā€ has met an investor -- a group of ĄÖ²„“«Ć½ Boulder graduate students. The students last week put $30,000 into Elihuu, an online software platform that connects product designers with manufacturers who can make their wares. The students turned venture capitalists direct CU-Boulderā€™s Deming Center Venture Fund (DCVF), which was launched by a donor in 1997 and is a program of the Leeds School of Business.
